Apple buys MDM company, Fleetsmith

Apple buys MDM

On June 24th, Fleetsmith made a blog post about being acquired by Apple. I'm a bit shocked because I have seen many System and Mobility Engineer type job postings from Apple requiring Jamf certifications, as if that is what Apple was using internally. This still might be true, and Apple just wants to use its own MDM for device management.

Many users of Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager with Mobile Device Management will probably have an embedded MDM option. Now you don't have the need to bring in another vendor and have your Apple enterprise support agreement cover everything.

I am all about unified consoles and contracts!

Like Jamf, Fleetsmith only manages Apple - Macs, iPhones, iPads, and Apple TVs. You will still need something like Intune or VMware's AirWatch / Workspace ONE if you have non-Apple devices like Windows Desktops, Android tablets, and Chromebooks.

This year, Fleetsmith was rated a Top Rated MDM by TrustRadius and Best Place to Work by the San Francisco Business Times and Silicon Valley Business Journal.
